Army adding App State assistant Braswell as defensive line coach

Appalachian State outside linebackers coach Cortney Braswell will be Army’s next defensive line coach.

Braswell posted a message on social media thanking Appalachian State for his first season as a full-time assistant. He replaces Tank Wright, who left West Point to become Illinois’ director of strength and conditioning.

Before his one season at Appalachian State, Braswell was a defensive quality control coach at Louisville.

Braswell was a guest speaker at the Lauren’s First and Goal Coaches Clinic last month. The organization was started by Army linebackers coach John Loose.

“Cortney brings valuable experience as a coach at Appalachian State and Louisville as well as great success as a high school coach in Tennessee,” Army coach Jeff Monken said in a release. “He has already made an impact in recruiting and is a tremendous addition to our staff that managed the best defensive unit in the country in 2020.”

Army has received recent commitments from Tennessee specialists – Independence punter Cooper Allan and South Doyle all-state kicker Ewan Johnson.

Prior to Louisville, Braswell was a successful high school coach in Georgia and Tennessee.
