Jeff Monken and the Black Knights will open preseason camp on August 1.
Army announced its full preseason practice schedule Thursday. Practices will be held at Goldstein Field and Howze Field. The preseason culminates with a scrimmage on August 17 at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights return seven starters on offense including senior quarterback Kelvin Hopkins and four starters on defense led by captains Cole Christiansen and Elijah Riley.
Monken was named one of 23 coaches to preseason watch list for the Bobby Dodd Trophy Thursday. Only three non-Power 5 conference coaches made the list: Monken, Central Florida’s Josh Heupel and Boise State’s Bryan Harsin. Among the Dodd Trophy candidates are Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Alabama’s Nick Saban, Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.
