Recruiting: California connection for Genova

Jaden Genova didn’t miss watching one Army football this past season.

Genova closely watched the Black Knights’ defense under the direction or first-year coordinator Nate Woody. Army’s attacking style caught Genova’s attention.

The JSerra (Calif.) Catholic senior linebacker will be a part of that defensive scheme in the future after his commitment to Army Friday.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun because they have a very aggressive defense and that’s the best kind of defense,” said Genova, a three-year starter at JSerra.

“What drew me to Army and why I committed was the brotherhood and the opportunities that I will have after West Point are endless.”

Genova’s commitment completed a one-year recruitment. Army started showing interest in January 2020 and offered Genova the next month.

Genova’s first offer came from Oregon his sophomore season. Genova said he chose Army over Idaho State and Lake Erie.

Army is recruiting Genova to play will (inside) linebacker. Genova gave his verbal commitment to recruiting coach Sean Saturnio and head coach Jeff Monken.

”I would say my relationship with the staff is amazing,” Genova said. “The entire staff is very easy to talk to. Coach Saturnio is really amazing because he is just very passionate about what he does. You just know he cares.”
