Recruiting: Louisiana running back Miles Stewart connects with Black Knights

Lusher (La.) running back Miles Stewart didn’t waste much time in making his college decision after watching Army defeat Rice in person during an official visit Friday.

Stewart committed to the Black Knights during the team’s postgame, locker-room celebration.

Life after West Point and the bonding with Army’s coaches and players were the main reasons that Stewart cited for his commitment.

“My interactions made me feel like I was already on the team,” Stewart said. “The stereotypes weren’t true. They don’t march in lines from class to class and it felt like a regular college atmosphere.

“(The coaches) were all down-to-earth people but when it came down to it they got to the business and handled their job.”

Stewart rushed for more than 1,100 yards in his junior season out of spread/pro-style scheme. Army’s run-heavy offense fits Stewart’s skill set.

“It can get me the ball in space with one-on-one opportunities in the pass game and run game,” Stewart said. “There are also runs between the tackles so I think I can succeed in the system.”

Stewart, who also received an offer from Navy, said he chose Army over FCS schools Alcorn State and Northwestern State. He is the fifth commit from Louisiana in Army’s 2020 class and fourth running back from the state.
