Coaching Staff Update: Corless not returning, Loose’s position duty

Defensive assistant Kevin Corless will not be returning to the Black Knights staff after serving the last six seasons as Army’s inside linebackers coach.

Corless mentored standout linebackers Andrew King, Jeremy Timpf, James Nachtigal and Cole Christiansen during his tenure at West Point. He followed Jeff Monken from Georgia Southern to Army in 2014. Corless, who began his coaching career at Northwest Missouri State in 1984, was Monken’s co-defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern in 2013.

John Loose, who was moved from defensive coordinator to assistant head coach, will coach Army’s linebackers. It isn’t clear whether Loose will lead inside or outside backers.

The Winston-Salem Journal has reported that Appalachian State safeties coach Greg Gasparato is expected to join the Black Knights staff. Gasparato, who has a background in coaching linebacker, would rejoin new Army defensive coordinator Nate Woody. Gasparato played safety under Woody at Wofford from 2005-08.
