Coaching staff update: Ware retiring, Worley new QB coach

Changes continue on the Black Knights staff as quarterbacks coach Mitch Ware is retiring.

Ware tutored Army quarterbacks for the last six seasons and was responsible for the development of Ahmad Bradshaw and Kelvin Hopkins as well as the maturation of returning Black Knight signal callers Christian Anderson and Jabari Laws.

Black Knight Nation has learned Kennesaw State quarterbacks coach Cody Worley will be announced as Ware’s replacement.

Worley has coached Kennesaw State quarterbacks and fullbacks the previous five seasons. Kennesaw quarterback Chandler Burks was the Big South offensive player of the year in 2017 and 2018 under Worley’s watch. Worley spent three years at The Citadel (2011-13) before joining Kennesaw’s staff. The former Furman quarterback threw for 19 TDs his senior season in 2010.

Ware’s coaching career spans 35 seasons including an 8-year stint at Georgia Tech prior to coming to West Point and four seasons as a Navy assistant.

More turnover on Army’s staff as offensive line coach Pat Tresey will not return. Tresey coached the Black Knights’ line for the past two seasons following two years as an offensive quality control coach.

Offensive quality control assistant Matt Drinkall has been promoted to tight ends coach. Sean Saturnio, who coached tight ends the last few seasons, is expected to remain on staff in a different capacity.
